Bank of Gametes and Embryone

A bank of gametes or embryos is a place where eggs, sperm and embryos frozen in liquid nitrogen are stored at a temperature of -196 °C. These banks are used to preserve the fertility of patients who want to postpone their reproductive desire without losing the quality and quantity of eggs that decays with age. They are also used to safeguard the fertility of patients who have to undergo oncological treatments. In addition, gamete and embryo banks allow accumulating eggs and adding them to a later cycle to increase the chances of success of IVF treatments in certain groups of patients. Good quality surplus embryos from couples who have undergone treatment can also be cryopreserved for use in a new attempt in the future if the initial transfer does not result in pregnancy, or in the future to expand the family and complete their reproductive project.
